Welcome to Sugarbutties
Here it is! The first pottery painting studio in the Chester and North East Wales area ran by a REAL potter.
As well as choosing from a wide range of ready-made pottery to paint (currently over 30 different designs), you can also make your own pot on the wheel with help from the potter and paint it at a later date.
Whenever you pop into Sugarbutties, there is always something on offer that doesn't require pre-booking. Pottery painting is always available and more often than not, a clay activity too. You can even go on the wheel without booking, although it is advisable to call ahead.
Event bookings are welcome from community groups, schools, businesses and festival organisers. The potter is proud to have hosted glaze workshops for Wrexham Science Festival 2005 and 2007.
The pottery is situated on the rustic 16th century Fferm Estate in Pontblyddyn, on the Wrexham Road (A541) and shares the converted barn with Dan Jones Photography, specialising in weddings and portraits.
Sugarbutties is within easy travelling distance of Mold, Wrexham and Chester (10 mins from Broughton Shopping Centre) complete with free parking and toilet facilities. Refreshments are available via coffee machines in the foyer and cold drinks in the pottery.
Ponblyddyn Cricket Club is directly adjacent to the workshop - extend your stay with a meal in The Bridge Inn and visit Plas Teg, the reputedly haunted Jacobean mansion, one mile from the pottery.
Welcome to student potter, Thomas Farrall
NEWI degree student Thomas Farrall, will be working at Sugarbutties carrying out essential tasks for Rachael in her absence. You can see Tom at work on the pottery wheel most Thursdays during the school holidays and have a go yourself.
